Well...unfortunately Mess-Free Painting wasn't quite as successful as the Moon Sand Bin :(
I definitely feel however that it is worth a second shot as I see so many blogs that rave about it...and I do believe my failure may have somewhat been the result of operator error, and a slightly distracted little one...so I will update with another review once we've given it a second try!
So if you haven't heard about Mess-Free painting, it's a great indoor, too hot or rainy day activity that's really as easy as 1, 2, 3...
1- Taking a freezer bag, squirt in a couple squirts of paint (Colors are completely up to you...I do however recommend not doing black or anything too dark as it will most likely end up the only color you can see)
2- Insert a piece of paper into the ziplock bag (See my 'things worth mentioning' below for more on this)
3- Close the Ziplock bag and secure it to a window, at your little one's height and where it will be easily accessed. I've seen blogs that recommend using contact paper for this, I however used packing tape as I did not happen to have any contact paper on hand.
Ta-Da!!! Once you've done all that it's ready to go, your little one can use their hands to move the paint around in the bag without getting it on their hands...and all over your house!
Things worth mentioning:
** I don't plan to use the paper when we re-try this activity. Bub seemed MUCH more interested in seeing the light come thru the paint as he squished it around, and all the paper did was seem to get in the way of it. Realistically, unless I'm missing something here, you're not going to be able to remove the paper and keep it anyway, ours was SOAKED!
** Secondly, I'm not sure if Bub is simply too young (he's almost 15 months old) OR if it was the location of which I put the Mess-Free painting (I chose to use T's playroom...silly me, the Lego table on display across the room were MUCH more appealing to Bub then some paint in a bag!)
Overall Review:
Set up: Less than 5 Minutes
Cost: Free! (I had all of the supplies around my house)
Cleanliness: Very! (As long as you make sure that bag stays shut, it's not making any mess at all!)
Play Time: About 10 minutes (I'm hopeful that better placement of the baggie, and a more cooperative attitude will get us some extra play time next time!)
